When we want to add more than one signature to the same document, we also offer an option to do so in different ways:

ONE – allows that regardless of the number of signatories it is sufficient to validate a document with the signature of a certain number of customers. Once the required number of signatories have signed, the remaining signatories will no longer have the document as pending signature, their signature status will change to “unnecessary”.
PARALLELO – allows the same document to be signed by more than one person at a time, but unlike one, this does not validate the outcome until all clients have signed.
SERIE – acts as a queue, it does not allow customers to sign until the one in the previous position in the signing order defined when making the request has signed. The document will not be validated until everyone has accepted or if someone declines.

What can biometric signatures be used for?

As users, we are all used to signing in many types of operations, which is why the use of biometric signatures is becoming more and more widespread in our daily lives.

Biometric signatures can be used in many sectors and by all types of companies, for example:

  • In invoicing processes: it saves a lot of time because you don’t have to print the document, sign it and scan it afterwards.
  • In the signature of various types of contracts, e.g. when you rent a vehicle.
  • In establishments and shopping centres when you pay by credit or debit card.
  • In the delivery companies of parcels or in delivery processes.
  • In banking operations.

The implementation of the biometric signature is neither costly nor difficult.

What is a biometric signature?

Biometric signature is any signature of an electronic document in which the signatory’s identity is associated with it by capturing his/her biometric data, which can be of many types: iris, voice, fingerprint, etc.

In the signature process, a series of biometric data uniquely associated with the signatory are captured, such as the speed of writing, the number or duration of strokes, the pressure exerted in writing, changes of direction or acceleration.

This type of data is what, when grouped together, makes it possible to unequivocally identify the person through their electronic handwritten signature made on the mobile device.

The graphic information obtained in real time on the mobile device used is linked to the document and to the person signing, and as it is encrypted, it is protected against manipulation or alteration.

The biometric signature is not the same as the digitised signature: while the former has high security by collecting the biometric data of the signatory, the latter can be easily forged, because it is done on paper and then scanned and saved in a digital document, which offers no security at all.

What are the requirements for a biometric signature?

For a biometric signature to be valid, it must comply with the requirements specified in article 26 of the European Regulation 910/2014, also known as eIDAS. These are detailed below:

The signatory must be uniquely linked. In other words, it must allow the person who has made it to be irrefutably associated with the person who has made it.

It must allow the identification of the signatory.

It must be created using the creation data of the electronic signature with a high level of confidence or under its exclusive control.

Be linked to the data signed by the same person in such a way that any subsequent modification can be detected.

In addition, an electronic signature that uses the signatory’s biometric data as a means of identification must comply with current data protection regulations.

Currently, the applicable regulations are the European Data Protection Regulation and Organic Law 3/2018, on the Protection of Personal Data and Guarantee of Digital Rights.

What is the legal validity of the biometric signature?

Its legal validity is guaranteed by its high reliability and it can be used as evidence in legal proceedings, as it guarantees the integrity of the signed document.

According to Article 25 of the European eIDAS Regulation, “an electronic signature shall not be denied legal effect and admissibility as evidence in legal proceedings solely on the grounds that it is an electronic signature.

This regulation recognises the legal validity of documents signed by means of electronic signatures and the obligation to be admitted in legal proceedings.

The biometric electronic signature would be included in this type of electronic signature.
